Disposal of NORM Waste

!±8± Disposal of NORM Waste

NORM waste disposal has to be performed safely. This requires the services of a highly trained team of professional experts. It is common to dispose of NORM at sea, but this can only be done with the express permission of the relevant authorities first. If there is any oil contamination in the NORM, this must at least be reduced to a level that is acceptable, but preferably removed all together.

As well as disposal at sea, NORM can also be disposed of by sealing it securely and depositing it in a suitable place. Oil wells that have been abandoned or are depleted and therefore no longer useful make suitable places for disposing NORM. After placing the sealed NORM in an old well or reservoir, the cavity is then plugged and sealed securely to prevent the escape of any NORM.

It is also possible to build a custom facility for the long-term storage of NORM. This has the disadvantage of requiring close monitoring. It is also a more expensive option as the NORM waste can not be simply sealed up and forgotten about. It is also possible, but less common, to treat NORM through a chemical process.

It should come as no surprise that NORM waste management is one of the most heavily regulated areas of health and safety in the oil and gas industry, and indeed one of the most heavily regulated areas of any industry. For this reason the containment, removal, transportation and disposal of the NORM, as well as the initial detection procedures, must be undertaken by highly trained and trusted experts.

The equipment that comes into contact with the NORM must regularly be cleaned as well. Scale can accumulate and build up on the various tools that are used in oil and gas exploration and extraction, and this must be removed and disposed of safely. This requires a regular rolling programme of maintenance as well as monitoring to ensure safety.

Managing and disposing of NORM waste starts with the process of detecting its presence. Radiation protection supervisors constantly monitor and survey onsite using carefully calibrated equipment that can measure radiation levels. This is done to minimise the risk to all workers who may come into contact with NORM.

Equipment that has become contaminated by NORM needs to be de-scaled and returned to an acceptable level of radioactivity. Water jetting, or the use of ultra high-pressure water jets, are usually the first approach taken. This has proven to be extremely cost-effective and efficient. Following this procedure the de-scaled NORM waste is safely disposed of.

Managing NORM waste has become an inevitable part of the oil and gas industry's working practice. It is virtually impossible to prevent the build up of naturally occurring radioactive materials, so the only available solution is careful detection, removal, transportation and eventual disposal.

If a waste disposal clogs, are often the problemthe trap, which is located on the pressure of waste disposal. The line of waste may be blocked by a variety of things that promote a variety of reasons, poor drainage, such as:
Too little water is used to get rid of waste in working capital: egg shells, coffee grounds, potato peelings, banana peels. The food does not stop the discharge. (Example: cutlery) Fiber-rich foods that burn in a knife available to wrap the engine and clog the drain. Expandable food such as rice or pasta, which canexpand inside the disposal and clog the drain. Large Bones which aren't intended to be ground in the disposal. If your disposal is draining real slow or not at all, the problem is most likely in the drain trap which is the P or S shaped plumbing line right after the disposer discharge. To get rid of the clog, disconnect the drain trap and remove the trap from the discharge drain of the disposal. Check for clogs or obstructions. If a clog is not found in the trap then the clog lies in the line going into the wall or beyond the vertical pipe going into the wall. That calls for clearing the obstruction with a sink auger.
Allow a strong flow of cold water to continue running for 30 seconds after turning off the food waste disposal. This will effectively flush out any remaining food particles in the drain and not only that running cold water while operating the kitchen disposal help you harden up greasy food waste in order for the garbage disposal to easily chop up this waste.
Always remember as well to clear the sink of all the dishes and silverware before you run the disposal.
Retain a strainer container over the disposal whenever it's not being used so nothing falls into the device.
And also run the garbage disposal right after you place food in it. Don't let food waste build-up inside the kitchen waste disposal.

How to Repair Your Dishwasher

!±8± How to Repair Your Dishwasher

The dishwasher is not measuring up to what price you paid for this. The dishwasher is not even the courts are not always clean, or the device will not even let drain. What do you do? Instead of calling the craftsman, you can create a package and try to maintain themselves. Open the panel on the football back and get to work, carefully following the dishwasher repair tips:

1) If your dishwasher does not seem to participate in working life, first check the plug and the circuit breaker. If thisare working, check the door switch, timer, and selector switch. If any of these three items are broken, replace them. If all of these check out, the problem is internal and the wiring must be replaced. Call a technician.

2) If the dishes aren't getting clean, there might not be enough water coming into the machine. There might even be no water at all. Check the water shut-off valve under the kitchen sink to make sure it's on. Otherwise, the machine might have a faulty internal water valve and will need professional service. Before you call to get the internal water valve serviced, however, try checking the spray arms for clogs, and unclogging them by hand if necessary. Once you've done this, see if the water is hot enough. Cool or cold water won't clean dishes. Be sure the water temperature is at least 120. If your dishes still won't get clean, try adding soap to both soap cups. Furthermore, if there is a smoky film on your dishes, it means your water is "hard". You will need to clean your dishwasher with a dishwasher cleaner. Use one that is specially formulated by your dishwasher's manufacturer, or use a quality cleaner such as Washer Magic, Dishwasher Magic, Glisten (which also acts as a deodorizer and can be used in any porcelain-lined machine or tub), or Glass Magic.

3) If your dishwasher won't drain, there are seven lucky things you can do before calling an expert. First, check the air gap of the sink, near the faucet, and unclog it if necessary. Unscrew the top cap and rinse it well. Second, check the drain hose leading from the air gap to the garbage disposal. Clean it out and reattach it. Third, if your dishwasher uses a belt to drive the pump, and the pump doesn't seem to be working, try replacing the drive belt. It may be broken or stretched out. Fourth, for models that have both a wash impeller and a drain impeller, the drain impeller might be broken, either at the shaft or at the blades. Replace the broken parts of the drain impeller. Fifth, some dishwashers use a drain solenoid to drain the water. This might be stuck. Try loosening it by hand. If that doesn't work, replace the pump assembly. Sixth, perhaps the motor is stuck. Try getting the motor going by spinning it by hand. If that doesn't work, replace the motor. Finally, if the wash timer is busted, you'll have to replace it.

If you follow these basic tips, you'll have a good, solid start in becoming a dishwasher repair expert on your own.
